Hi. I have a graphite cane with a roller tip on it. I want to switch the tip out to a straight tip, but can't get the old tip off. Any suggestions? I thought I would like the roller tip but really don't.
some canes can have their tips removed but most i've come acrossed can't. i personally don't like the canes with removable tips as they can be pulled off at the worse possible times.
Depending on how much you've used the tip, it may just take some major muscles to pull it off. Also, if it's a folding cane, be sure to have a pencil or something to hold the elastic cording out while you switch the tips so it doesn't disappear back into the cane, never to be seen again. Not that I've ever had that happen - insert sarcasm here. lol
Anyway, try pulling really hard or perhaps pulling and twisting.
Good luck.
ah yes cane tips are tricky to come off especially if you've worn them down lots but there is another thing you can try which hasn't been mentioned here and a o&m showed me once and that was putting it under hot water from the hot water tap and that shall help to loosen it, hope this helps, smiles.
If you really can't get it off, here's what you do. Get some of those jar openers. They're rubber mats, usually curcular, and they cost about three dollars at walmart. Get a pair of vice grips, two pairs might even be better. Wrap the jar opener around the tip where it meets the cane, then clamp the vice grips onto the jar opener. Then twist. If it still won't come of, clamp a second vice grip and jar opener on the cane and twist using the vice grips as levers.
Keep in mind that not all cane tips connect in the same way. Some have a hook that catches the string. Some just go around the end of the cane and stay on by friction. Its best to know which kind you have on the cane now before changing them.
interesting never thought of doing it that way but good to know, smiles
